That's disappointing. I was hoping that this movie wouldn't be that bad, but then it's not surprising. Anytime they do a remake or a sequel nine times out of ten it's done with the deliberate intention of sucking big time. Anyone remember "The Invasion"? Give me a break. Just stop with the remakes already!

Aaargh this movie pissed me off! I'm gonna give it a very low Rental, the original was a masterpiece and this was a flat, uninteresting pass at a remake. Sure, the special effects were great, and it offered some interesting ideology (that is if you're 12 years old) but the acting sucks so bad and they should've made gort look more modern if anything...

Well I've never seen the original, but I thought the movie had some good concepts and metaphors like the sphere's being arks and the alien being born with placenta and all, lol. The lil kid was getting on my nerves though, the part where they were at the grave of his father it would of been good if the dad would of come out like a zombie, lol. And as for Keeanu he is forever with a blank stare and emotionless, in every single role he portrays so no shocker here... I actually thought his character was supposed to be that way and that it was a good role for him being that that's the way he is. I would give it a Low Matinee, because of the special effects.

Yeah, this movie wasn't that great. However, I have no problem with product placement in films. Who do you think funds a lot of them? The McDonald's scene with Keanu Reeves and that alien posing as a Chinese guy was done tastefully. No pun intended.

I just saw this movie today and holy shit it was bad, Granted I have not yet had the chance to see the original, but I know for a fact that one is better than this piece of shit. They didn't even say the famous phrase for God sakes!

This shit right here is one of the worst movies of there year, staight up.. with the exception of Jennifer Connely the acting was non-existent.. I like Reeves but would someone please give his ass a role where he isn't wherin' a fuckin' suit and lookin' like past roles..i thought his ass was gon do some matrix shit or possibly excersise some demons... and im glad someone felt the way i did about Jayden even if that was what the role called for... but in a nutshell this was a big ass let down for me 'cause i thought that this was gon be some good shit..one of the last movies of the year and this could have been a last of the year bang for '08

I hate it when old movies get disrespected like this. The day the Earth Stood Still didn't even need a remake damn it.

Damn Korey. Hope the rest of your trip went better than that movie.

For the love of God, stop with the remakes. Especially- like Korey said- ones considered classics. To me, when someone helms a remake, it's their way of saying, "I can do better." It's downright insulting, especially when the end product is a hollow, CGI-heavy mess. As most things are nowadays, remake or not. We haven't mastered the "art" of CGI effects to use them as dependently as we do now. Practical sets, makeup, and animatronics will ALWAYS look better than something computer-generated.

To tell you the truth, I was probably not going to see this anyway. You can't remake classic that easily. Good special effects aren't the only thing. Maybe I'll see it rental back-to-back with the original to compare.

The best way I can describe this film is hollow. There's a great shell of a movie here, a fun premise, strong concepts, the building blocks for what could be a good film. The first 20-30 minutes of the film got my hopes up, it builds up the the start of world tension, the confusion and awe of seeing an alien being arrive at our doorstep very well. This build up then leads to what should be the real substance of the film, and thats where it's lacking. What should have followed in my opinion is intelligent and thought provoking dialogue concerning the nature of man and his relationship with the planet. Is man a benefit or plague on the planet? Does man offer long term benefits at the cost of short term pain? Is it moral to wipe out one species for the survival of the others? The film needed to build up a case for Klaatu's actions, then build up a strong counter argument that convinces us and Klaatu that humanity deserves another chance. It does neither unfortunately, rushing us to a conclusion that is just as hollow and emotionless as the film. Instead of focusing on the global theme the movie focuses on the human drama of Connolly and Smith, but it doesn't even use that effectively. There's a point in the film where Reeves and Smith are left together in the woods, this was a perfect time to have the child work as a metaphor for humanity, scared and alone, prone to brash actions to defend itself, but capable of learning. It even felt briefly like they thought to do this, but before the idea gets off the ground the story rushes past it and moves on to the next scene. The film just feels like a wasted opportunity to tell a convincing story. John Cleese's brief scene with barely 4 lines of dialogue exemplifies this.

I hated this movie. The only good thing that came out of this is that the remake will give the original some new publicity and hopefully attract younger movie goes to the classics. Hell, I will even go out on a limb and say the effects on the classic is better than the remake. The whole movie felt like a TV show. Not to mention all the TV actors in it, and god awful editing! Shit, I think calling this a TV movie is insulting to TV....I take it back, this crap is a YouTube movie...
