Loethlin, it wouldn't have made a difference if they'd invited a WWII geek, this movie was historically inaccurate. They took a lot of liberties with this movie. Like the execution scene was completely wrong. Cruise's character was hung by piano wire.... On the other hand, I thought Cruise's stoicness was good for this movie. And the movie was fun, a little long, but fun. I'd say low Matinee.

Ok, guys. With all due respect... (yea, it's thats bad in my opinion) You invite chicks to review chick flicks with you. You should've invite a WWII geek to review this movie with you. i mean, come on! It's a movie based on a true story, happening during WWII. This is so OBVIOUSLY a movie targeted at specific type of audience, you don't have to even THINK to realise it. Come on. Just like chick flicks. Diffrerent audience, but same principle. Valkyrie was historically accurate, as far as we can tell right now, and also had some great actors to assume the roles of important people of that time. and they did their job, played very well. Even the nutjob Tom Cruise. I'm sorry. He's one screwed up person, but is good at what he does for living. For me, this was a Full Price movie, because of what it was SUPPOSED to be. A geeky movie for WWII geeks, like me! Also, if you didn't invite any expert to review this movie with you, you fail. Big time.

I agree, shawman1 Tom Cruise is awesome. But the whole accent thing - thats too easy to pick on and as far as I was concerned that didn't ruin the movie for me in anyway, I REALLY enjoyed this film, I think it was a great start to the year and I ultimately think spill need to review this film again. Oh and one more thing about the accents - If you're not going to do a film in German then don't have them put on accents because when Germans talk to each other they don't hear each others accents, they'd just sound the way Americans sound to each other and so on ...

Though I know people will hate me for saying this, I'm actually a fan of Tom Cruise. Despite his weirdness, he's actually and exceptional actor, and to think with him and his amazing supporting cast not speaking with a single believable accent is UNFORGIVEABLE! I'm with the crew here, I couldn't get passed the multicultural nazis to really even enjoy the story. I would have to give it a rental tops.

its at least a matinee. They were able to take something that you already know what happens and still make it suspensful. and also cause tom cruise with 3 fingers shooting a gun is funny

If he doesnt speak with a German accent, then is depiction of von Stauffenberg isnt acceptable. Its not good enough just to "look" like the character. The film is a great story, but the actors let it down. Tom Cruise is a great actor, but his performance just wasnt good enough in this film.

The previous plot for the movie was Tom Cruise finds the Scientologists secret time machine and goes back in time. When he arrives he accidently kills the guy who was going to assassinate Hitler and decides to do it himself. Oh and it was gonna be a comedy.

interesting thing is, germany and austria already made a movie about stauffenberg, which is known to be very accurate and very well made. The actors were very unknown but played excellent. So why remake it with some bored actors. low rental

So Tom Cruise, Kenneth Braddock, Tom Wilkinson, and Terrance Stamp don't give a shit? Right? How does one determine when an actor does care about what role he or she is portraying? Did the bald guy at least care? What about that weasely dude that was in charge of cutting off the phone lines? Does he seem like someone who took his role seriously? Or was his accent inauthentic, as well?

Did Connery or Curry have Russian accents in The Hunt for Red October? We as the audience understand that they're really speaking German, and that the English is just there for our (the English-speaking audience's) benefit. So why does it matter that they didn't have German accents as they spoke ENGLISH?

New rule: No references to Hitler and rappers shall appear together in any future Spill review. The results are just too weird. I also never thought I would see a dancing cat in relation to Hitler either. This review is now pure Godwin's Law. Wow, someone actually beat me to the Hitler rap video (the Whitest one)

I went to see this movie because my husband has just 3 degrees of separation between he and Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise's character) and 4 degrees of separation to Tom Cruise. Perhaps because of that fact I liked it more than I would have otherwise (the accents were very annoying), but here's what I know: of the many assasination attempts on Hitler's life, Valkyrie was the most famous because it was the most elaborately planned, and because it was driven by Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise's character) who was a famously wealthy aristocrat of noble title whose family had - and continues to have - the same prestige in Europe as the Kennedy's have in the US. I guess it's one thing for a poor and desperate individual to attempt to kill Hitler - but when someone rich and powerful gives it a shot, that's worth Tom Cruise's time in making a movie out of. Ironically, the guy was no saint - he thought having Polish slaves was perfectly acceptable - but fortunately he had the clarity to get uncomfortable when they started routinely executing them by the millions. I guess that just proves that people are complex and no one - no matter how heroic - is without flaws. Phew! Now we can all sleep better at night!

god i saw this movie and it was boring as hell this should of just hired on the history channel..........15 times i thought it was 20+ i really hope they dont make a movie for each attempt because that would just be a waste of money

Aw, I was really pulling for the Captain K'nuckles joke from the Audio Commentary. Oh well, I didn't expect this to be too good, just because you throw on a wig and do a funny dance doesn't mean you can instantly jump back in the game, that takes skill that Tom just doesn't have as an actor.

I'm sorry, im in the minority here. I actually really liked this movie. Yes, in the very beginning I was distracted by the whole accent thing, but if you can manage to get past that, I think its a really enjoyable film about a topic that Hollywood really has not done before or in recent memory. At the end of the day I give this a high matinee.

Now someone probably said this already but I'm to lazy to check all the comments but there was 42 attempts to kill Hitler and this is based of the 41th, and speaking of suicide bombers trying to kill Hitler, on attempt was to kill Hitler with one guy right next to him having a time bomb go of in his pocket as he was taking a tour of captured soviet weapons but left at the last minute(well maybe not the last minute because he deactivated the bomb after Hitler left).
