What? Better than sex for me! I completely disagree with the spill-crew on this one, the slow-mo shots were done effectively, there was no gimmick/schtick intended on zack snyder's part, I >never noticed the girl lacking acting chops, her character was fairly one-dimensional, she didn't need to break out into meryl streep-like hysterics, and I gotta say, lol, you guys think that Dr. Manhattan was hung? Lol, man, some guys compensate with fast cars, you must do so with bad scores. Look, I never read the original material-I'm sure it's good as well, but maybe you should re-evaluate your critical faculties if you're comparing a medium with static pictures and a few shots to tell a story, with a full-motion picture millions of dollars went into. If it's a good movie, it's a good movie. If it's a good comic, it's a good comic. Sometimes mixing them together produces interesting results. And sometimes you shouldn't compare those two, and view them as seperate entities. Just a thought. And Carlyle? Man, what stupor? The ending was good! I wouldn't go 'omfg, best ending EVA', but it's good and it might be a tough pill to swallow, but hey, if you can't get over your predisposition to certain types of endings, vs how good they actually are, maybe a different profession is waiting. But hey, listen, opinion's are opinions and here are mine.

Full Price. Even though I was luke-warm to the graphic novel, I thought this was an amazing adaptation of the book. Not my favorite story, but a near perfect translation.

I finally got around to watching this; despite my being a huge fan of the comic the movie just never really held any real urgency for me. If you've read the comic and love it dearly, make sure you watch the Director's Cut. It is very close to being frame-by-frame (if not word-for-word) from the graphic novel for about 90% of the movie, although the tradeoff is that the film feels like it goes on forever at over 3 hours long. The acting is solid and the cinematography is fantastic, and you really feel the emotion coming off the characters. True, parts here and there are cut down or condensed to save on time, but nothing really major is lost from the story. Zach Snyder also seemed incapable of keeping himself from adding an almost 300-like level of violence to the film, so be prepared to see a good deal of gore in certain sequences even when it's not needed. Slow motion is abused at times but after a while you stop noticing it, and it actually gives you more time to appreciate the artistry of the scene (like you would with a non-animated comic book). My only real gripe is with the ending, but while something major was changed the end result is the same, and frankly would be less confusing to the audience; I remember having to re-read the ending of the graphic novel a few times just to puzzle out everything that happened. Bottom line: if you're a fan of the series, mid-to-low Full Price for the Director's Cut. For casual movie-goers, high Matinee (go with the Theatrical Version to save time).

i've read the book, and i thought the movie was really slow moving at times and the sex scene didn't need to be that long, and the slow motion seemed excessive at times, if i watch it again im probably going to fast-forward some scenes...the dr. m. section was really cool

I've read this and seen it too I must admit I can't entirely agree with what the spill crew are saying. I thought that the only things that were left out were unnecessary for film and a modren audience I also thought that the changing of the theme of the destruction (tentacles and such) at the end would have only left a modern audience ( after seeing the best interpritation of a gritty alternative 80's timeline to date) It's a film after all and the overall point was well hit home thinking what the f**k?

I guess I'm the wrong person to ask about this movie because I am absolutely obsessed with Watchmen, I grew up with the comic and have been in love with it ever since. Why? Because the comic and the movie both made me rethink superheroes. It displayed (Yes in a extreme manner) the gritty realities of life. The Comedian was supposed to be a sociopath.....it's called irony. The point of this comic/movie was to ask the question "Do the ends really justify the means?" "Can we trust the people we see as heroes?" Zack Snyder did an incredible job translating the comic book into the movie, keeping all the themes and grittiness of the comic. The acting was spot on, sure some of the blood was way over done, but I was very happy with the movie. Honesty I would give this movie Full Price, for script/translation from the comic, directing, casting, filmography, and acting.

I think the Spill Crew is some what lenient towards this movie. I just could not get into it. The Comedian was a sociopath; he killed a pregnant woman for crying out loud! I did not care for any of the characters in the film. I give Watchmen a >low, low Rental.

Just saw this for the first time tonight, and I actually liked it a lot more than I expected to!I have read the graphic novel this is based on.And no,like many comic adaptions,no it is not perfect. But,I still really enjoyed it.Yes,the three hour running time can be rough, but as Leon said,"I wasn't bored."Parents note, this is NOT a kids superhero movie! This thing is extremely violent and bloody!!Best acting nods go to Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach! For me,this is a high MATINEE!

Well, Alan Moore can bitch about the movie all he wants. I honestly say to him" Shut the Fuck up". The novel is indeed amazing and as an outstanding amount of depth and morality. But I knew the movie could not cover the whole fucking novel, it is just too much to cover. And i am glad they removed the squid ending, people wo have read the book will know what i mean. So, I honestly think Watchmen was a great comic-to-film adaptation. Alan Moore, stop bitching please. And just a note; if you have not seen the movie yet, do not until you read the book. I know many people who left the theater and hated the movie because they were confused, thinking it was too complex, bored (how were people bored i do not know. People were getting killed or beaten every 10 minutes), were scared of seeing a blue penis(people need to really grow up), thought it was too graphic (Well, then they have not read the source material then), or because some people are comic book loyalist and expected everything from the novel IN the movie. Nevertheless, suggesting you are not a comic book loyalist pussy and have not read the book, i recommend reading the book and then watching the movie. It is a very dark, complex, entertaining, superhero film, which was quite original. Full Price, borderline Better Then Sex.

I've seen the film twice and read the Graphic Novel years ago and I quite enjoyed the film. Rorschach, Nite Owl, the Comedian, and Dr. Manhattan were all excellent esp Rorschach. The music went well with the cinematography. I love the opening credit scenes with "the times are a-changing" - very aprop. considering how things were changing with superheroes affecting history. I also like the film ending better than the novel because the squid thingy didn't seem to be enough of a threat to make mankind band together whereas the very real (for them) existence of Dr. Manhattan was a real threat. It also gave Dr. Manhattan more of a reason to leave. Using the scale here I'd say high matinee to low full price. It's worth seeing in the theater.

I saw this movie twice, and I read the graphic novel recently, AFTER seeing the movie 2 times. And I wasn't that impressed. It didn't seem like that amazing of a movie, some of the dialogue didn't translate well to script, a lot of the acting was under par, the music was bad... it just wasn't a successful movie. I can see why fans of the graphic novel enjoy it, because it was a good tribute to the comic. But I'd have to give it a High Rental, or a low matinee to be honest. And to Sean, and Nicho below me- what's with comparing every movie to The Dark Knight? I personally loved the movie, and still believe it's one of the best to come out in years, but you shouldn't base a movie rating in comparison to another movie. And it didn't "suck". I've heard people say "it's overrated, sucks"... etc... but they must've watched a different movie.

i read the novel and it melted my face.the movie had the same affect it didn't ruin the book it was different but thats why on the the novel it says the watchmen by alan moore and on the movie it says the watchmen by zack snyder and zack snyder made it his own and that's why i say it a full price or even better than sex.

Wasn't too impressed with it the 1st time. At the time, I'd give it a high matinee. Saw it again, and despite the flaws, loved it. Full Price!

I give this movie a A-. It was good but not nearly as good as the graphic novel, it has its bright moments like the opening montage and the overall design of the film. One thing that was great was that they finally got a guy who looks like Richerd Nixon. I saw the trailor for Frost/Nixon and that guy did not look at all like Nixon. Doc Manhattens design was faithful to the comics, so was Rosarch. Nite Owl II was good for a batman wannabe. Silk Spectre II's costume was a little bit of both. They should of not had a purple Hooded Justice. I did'nt like the sqiudless alien ending but it was nice for the writers to call the Manhatten powered generator S.Q.U.I.D. Basically with this film, if Alan Moore watches it I think he'll say " Not bad, At least it's better than the 1989 script".

i liked it. i have never read the novel but this made want too. i think they could have goon into more detail about ozzy though. i didnt feel like they said much about his past or what he can acually do.

I went into the movie knowing two things: the fact it was NEVER going to be as good as the Graphic Novel anyway, and the fact that the version of the movie I was going to see wasn't the version Zack Snyder intended. I would have actually waited for the 190 minute Directors Cut on DVD if I didn't so badly want to see the movie on the big screen, even if it was in a compromised form. All things considered, I still really liked the movie and thought Snyder did an overall great job. So for me this is a full price. I'm hoping that when the DC comes out that the spill crew might re-review the movie and upgrade the rating. P.S. Come on guys, the giant squid was never going to work on film.

I enjoyed this movie. Because, to quote Leon, for that near 3 hours I was never bored. Rorscach Rulez. Snyder is a good director. 300 was cool, Dawn of the Dead was stupid but alot of fun, and this was really good. >High Matinee.
The Spill Crew Rating:
Synopsis: 300's Zack Snyder brings Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' critically acclaimed comic book Watchmen to the big screen, courtesy of DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures. Set in an alternate universe circa 1985, the film's world is a highly unstable one where a nuclear war is imminent between America and Russia. Superheroes have long been made to hang up t...
