"Oh...my...God..." Man, I loved Samuel L. Jackson in this film. But this film was just about as god-awful as 'The Wicker Man' with Nick Cage. Jackson is basically the only somewhat saving grace of this film. However, I could understand how interracial-couples could come to like this film. Maybe they've experience something(although, not as extreme as this) like this. I mean, have you read Roger Ebert's review of this film? 4 out of 4?!... Oh well.

Damn Korey lol So what did you rate it again? XD He can have my damn sugar too, he has always scared me. Watching the review, even after what you've said, I can't see him in this movie as being an old angry racist- just batshit crazy. lol you know what I just think Samuel L. Jackson is just like that. He was in Coming to America ('member Eddie Murphy's movie? XD) with that small role and was lookin' straight ass insane.

I think the rating you gave is bullshit. I know alot of black guys who don't like white men with black women, and also white guys who don't like it the other way. But, that being said this was an entertaining movie and so what if Sam Jackson got jealous. There are alot of crazies out there, and this movie just told one story.

As far as the constant "buddy drinking" goes throughout the movie, haven't you heard the mantra "Keep your friends drunk and your enemies drunker".

sorry for double posting, but if you want a good movie about a interracial-copy that is not black, look up one of Bruce Lee's movies (forgot the name and too lazy to research).

I'm a black man, if this movie was about a White guy in South Carolina terrorizing a black guy who is with a white girl, then I know Korey wouldn't have reacted nearly as strongly and probably given it a Matinee or at least a rental at worse. Hell the white guy wouldn't even need half the reasons it would have taken to Korey to convince him that the white guy just wants to be a prick because he can, compared to Sams character. Not being too cynical of you Korey, but you dropped the ball on this review (now that I actually watch the movie). It was my full priced, I loved this movie. I understand where Korey is going with his argument, but the sterotype of a big old racist black man just doesn't exist in the mainstream consciousness. And I sure this movie didn't change a damn thing.

Love Samual Jackson...Why is it only a interacial couple if one of people is black? Their are so many interracial couple from so many different races and nobody cares or give them a second look. I bet their are white and black women who get with Samual Jackson anyday He's too cool.

Here's an idea how about as a society we stop this belief system that any negative character of race is a political statement against the entire people. Not only does it smack of the same simplistic ideology racists and bigots use but it's offensive to anyone who sees the world as the truly multi dimensional place that it is. It's a place with people of all races, religions, creeds capable of displaying both postive and negative attributes. Also as a matter of fact Sam Jackson was in a movement similar to the Black Panthers that probably didn't look too kindly on mixed relationships. He talked about it on the Henry Rollins Show. Point being his character is of the age of someone who very could care about a white man dating a black woman. And why is Korey so worked up? I mean he's a cartoonist and makes off colour offensive jokes in like every single review on this site...and then he shows he has a poster of Dolemite the rudest crudest, craziest, drug dealing, ho pimpin' rhyming-ist black man ever put on film? I gotta say I'm just confused.

Korey, I didn't see anyone defending their relationships to you or anyone else. I'm married to my White man. The time (if there ever was one) for defending my relationship is >OVER now. You (the general you, not you specifically) can either be chill or STEP. We were just saying that Black woman/White man couples get their share of real life bullshit as well. Folks are not welcoming us with any more open arms than they are Black men/White women couples. And when you said in the review that the movie'd be more realistic with a crazed, angry Black woman going after a Black man with a White wife made it sound like you were implying that Black women are irrational, bigoted, violent and plain ol' jealous of Black men's interracial prowess (and of the non-Black women you all choose). More and more Black women are no longer worrying about Black men or who y'all are fucking, loving or marrying. Why should we? It ain't like y'all worried about us. And gee, about 40 or so years of browbeating Black men about their lack of loyalty towards us sure has worked well, hasn't it? The idea of control is a big enough illusion as is. Control over another human being is a myth. I don't care what grown folk do as long as they ain't doin' it in my house in my bed. And I damn sure can't change grown folk either so why even start on that road? Just like you're sick of the constant media image of the violent, animalistic, irrational Black man, I'm sick of the image of Black woman as romantic loser, unattractive, inferior, unfeminine and either asexual or a hypersexed, degraded, sexual toilet. I guess we're even.

Just to address Tsweet talking about closet racism in the South, maybe they shouldn't have set the film in Lakeview Terrace in North Hollywood California where you can't fart at a restaurant without an interracial couple nearby smelling it.

I've been thinking this movie was going to be the years biggest some ol bulsh** since I first saw the trailer. This film's premise guaranteed an idiot plot. Before you knew the reasons you could see this cop was harassing this guy for no particular reason that was going to make sense. And second there was no way this couple wasn't going to have reasonable recourse against this guy. They were going to have to fall back on "no one will believe us". Neighbors think hes a saint and they will think they are just bigots. And the cops are going to be all tentative. But Corey nails it and guest agrees, his motivations don't sell. Its just what the f* is this guy's problem? You don't have to have a political take to roll your eyes at this film. What's going to happen here is like other "some ol bullsh** movies like Event Horizon or Hitcher they'll gain a cult following for the over the top material going on and Jackson's bad ass self. But this is a total film crap to the core.

I personally enjoyed it, and found Samuel Jackson's character to have adequate motivation for his harassment of the couple. Do i agree with it? Hell no. But lack of motivation? I disagree...it was there. So was the anger. I agree, though, that Abel Turner went overboard in the third act, that things escalated too quickly. AT seemed to be a rounded character when he is first introduced...but i guess the climax needed to end with a bang. My rating? Matinee.

I spoke to a friend of mine, who happens to be black, who saw the movie and his impression was that it was more about double standards (he mentioned something about Jackson's character covering up drug use) and that the issue of inter-racial relationships was just one aspect of that. That said, he didn't think very highly it, either. I see racism in two categories. Prejudice, which is a belief that some talent, belief or behavior (or lack thereof), is present in all members of a group, in this case a race. All Japanese are good at math, all blacks are good at dancing or all white men have a problem with black men dating white women are examples of this. This is pretty much the result of lazy thinking and can be confronted by challenging the person to critically think about what they're saying. Bigotry is the other type, which often manifested in the belief that due to membership in a group, an individual should be entitled to or restricted from a particular right or privelege. (i.e., a black man shouldn't have a relationship with a white woman or, for that matter, a white man.) This usually comes from willful arrogance. That's much harder to confront. A person who believes themselves to be superior due to something as trite as skin color probably doesn't want to believe otherwise. As far as the anger over the double standards of the depiction of inter-racial relationships goes, I'm with you on that. It is crap. What is worse than the fact that bigots are out there is when society coddles them lest we upset them. Here's something that really pissed me off when I read it: Obama himself might have trouble striking a populist tone, too. As the first black candidate of a major party, his staff is aware that he cannot afford to be portrayed as the 'angry black' candidate. >http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/sep/21/uselections2008.barackobama Even as a middle-class, middle aged white male, this really irritates the crap out of me. Nobody's worried about McCain getting angry and he uses the word "fight" in every third sentence. Why is it that Obama can't be angry at the complete mess of things right now? Because he's black?!? If that's not "Some Ol' Bullshit," I don't know what the hell is. Look, every body does have prejudices of something or other. A lot of people get hung about about another person's religion which, at least has some very tenuous credibility due to a belief structure that adherents are supposed to follow. But try as I might, I just can't see what the hell the color of someone's skin has to do with a damned thing.
